1. Bachelor’s Degree (Major in aviation management, business administration, finance, economics, public administration, marketing, or transportation logistics)

​

2. Have/Gain Industry Experience

  • Try to get an entry-level job in airport operations, maintenance, administration, planning, customer service, or communications to build up your resume

​

3. Gain an Airport Management Certificate (Many colleges, universities, and industry associations provide courses)

​

4. Join the AAAE (Provides development, networking, career opportunities, conferences, seminars, certifications, mentoring programs, and industry connections that allowed you to fast track your management career)

 

  • Be at least the age of 21

 

  • Have an affiliate membership in AAAE or IAAE

 

  • Worked for full-time in a public use airport for at least one consecutive year (3 years upon finishing the program)

 

  • Four-year college degree or eight years of public use airport experience

 

(TIP: If you accumulate 5-10 years of airport experience, you will become a very strong candidate for top positions as an airport manager)
